Souper Bowl Sunday!

On Sunday, February 3, we will have the opportunity to participate in Souper Bowl Sunday by donating to our shared ministry at the Dorothy Day Center (Loaves and Fishes). Christ the Servant participates with Arlington Hills Lutheran Church on the 30th of the month by serving approximately 300 people a nutritious meal. Christ the Servant purchases the milk, bread, margarine and beverages for this monthly meal.

Christ the Servant has participated in the Souper Bowl of Caring for several years. The 2008 national goal is $10 million. Our church goal is to raise $600. All funds we collect here at Christ the Servant will be directly used for the supplies we purchase for Dorothy Day Center. Right after both services on February 3rd, you will have the opportunity to drop your check or cash in the soup kettle in the narthex. Please be generous in your support of this crucial ministry!

Caring Friends

Members of the Caring Friends Committee continue to visit and care for members of our congregation. There is a program called HomeTouch where weekly bulletins along with puzzles, Bible verses, stories and many fun things are mailed to individuals. There has been a great response to this and everyone who receives this special package seems to enjoy it. Not everybody is able to get out and this special contact keeps them in touch with CSLC and also gives them something fun to read and do. Another planned project, that was recently started, is getting together a group to write to people overseas that are somehow connected to our church. If you are interested in being a part of any of these projects in this very important ministry, please contact Debbie Erickson.

Prayer Chain

Christ the Servant has an active prayer chain. To activate a prayer request, call the church office.

Dorothy Day Center

Servers are needed for the 30th day of every month. Meet at Christ the Servant at 3:00 PM to travel to Dorothy Day Center to help prepare and serve a meal to anywhere from 250 to 400 people. Sign up at the Welcome Desk if you are able to help! If you have any questions, please contact our coordinator Sue Woehrle.

AA Meetings At CSLC

Alcoholic Anonymous Meetings are held on Tuesdays at 7:30 PM at Christ the Servant in the back classroom.

Ilula Health Center

It's a simple way to make a difference for the Ilula Health Center in Tanzania. Turn you pocket change into global ministry change! Drop your change in the jar located by the Welcome Desk in the narthex. All donations are sent to the St. Paul Area Synod to support the Ilula Health Center. For more information on the ministry in Tanzania, check out the website.

Lutheran Marriage Encounter

Lutheran Marriage Encounter invites all married couples to enrich their relationship through improved communication on a very special weekend. A time to share feelings, hope, disappointments, joys and frustrations plus a time to share your lives privately with each other. For 27 years Lutheran Marriage Encounter has been offering weekends to couples of all ages. Lutheran Marriage Encounter is part of World Wide Marriage Encounter, the non-profit umbrella organization that supports many faith expressions. Our goals are to strengthen the Lutheran Church and to strengthen a couple's relationships with each other and with God. The weekend accomplishes this through a series of 13 talks presented by a Lutheran clergy couple and three lay couples.

ELCA Disaster Response

The ELCA Disaster Response, both domestic and international, have sent requests for additional help in the past couple months. The need is still great. See flyers at the Welcome Desk for information on the damage from tornadoes in 19 states, the crisis in southern and eastern Africa where 30 million are at risk of starvation, and most recently, the crisis in Liberia where the people are facing hunger and life-threatening conditions. You are welcome to give through Christ the Servant or directly to ELCA Disaster Response. Check their website for information and updates.
