Women's Ministries

Purpose Statement

As a community of women created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our figts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, society, and the world.

Circle Meetings

All confirmed women of all ages of Christ the Servant are welcome to participate in any or all of the above groups.

Ministries

Fellowship Events

Invitation

We invite each and every woman of Christ the Servant to join us for Bible study, fellowship events and/or ministry projects.

Fund Raiser

We raise funds for our ministries by participating in the Neighborhood Garage Sale the last Saturday in April. The next one will be Saturday, April 26, 2008. In addition to the rummage sale, we also have a bake sale and a lunchroom. The hotdogs are ready at 9 AM!

Prayer Chain

Christ the Servant has an active prayer chain. To activate a prayer request, call Shirley Larson or Cheri Schouweiler or call the church office.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

You are invited to create a prayer shawl for our friends in great need of comfort, in order to help them experience God's peace and powerful love. This ministry involves the creating of prayer shawls-knit, crochet, croknit, or the process of your choice.QuiltBefore you begin, pray to the Lord for you to be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. Pray for the person who will receive this prayer shawl and ask the Lord to bless, heal, anoint and guide the person. Pray for the family members and for the doctors and others who will take care of the person. Cover the shawl with prayers by weaving them into the shawl as you work. Below are patterns for crochet and knit. While you are welcome to use them if you like, you may also use a method or pattern of your choosing. Our goal is for the finished shawl to be approximately 30" wide and 60-70" long, including fringe of a 3-6" length on the two short ends. In addition, we would like a 2x3" patch of the same yarn as your shawl. These patches will be used to create a record of our work. Please include the care label from your yarn with the finished shawl.

  KNITTING DIRECTIONS
        Materials:
2 or 3 skeins of nice knitting worsted weight yarn
Size 11 or 13 knitting needles

Note: Sizes are approximate. Adjust for your own gauge.
Pattern: Cast on 57 stitches. Knit 3, Purl 3 to the end of the row, for every
row. A weave pattern will develop. When you reach the desired length, use
the rest of the yarn to create fringe.

  CROCHET DIRECTIONS
        Materials:
3 skeins of nice knitting worsted weight yarn
        Size N crochet hook

Note: Sizes are approximate. Adjust for your own gauge.
        Pattern: Chain 71 loosely.
Row 1: (right side) (Dc, ch 2, sc) in 4th ch from hook. *Skip next 2 chs,
(2dc, ch 2, sc) in next ch. Repeat from * across. Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: (2 dc, ch 2, sc (in first ch 2 sp and in each ch 2 space across).
Repeat row 2 until you have reached the desired length. Do not finish off.
Last row: Ch 2, *sc in first ch 2 sp, ch 2. Repeat from * across, end with
        sc. Finish off.
Add fringe to first and last rows with remaining yarn.

Thank you for your interest in helping us bring comfort to our brothers and sisters in need. If you have any questions regarding the prayer shawl ministry, please contact Lois McKeag.

Bread Distribution

Free Bread Distribution continues on Tues. mornings at 9 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Volunteers from Christ the Servant and the community pick up day old bread from two locations to be distributed free of charge to anyone. Please pass the word to family, friends and neighbors!

The Lord's Pantry Day

Throughout the month, we collect food and grocery items for the White Bear Lake Emergency Food Shelf, which serves Vadnais Heights and other communities. The following items are particularly welcome: hearty soups, peanut butter, tuna fish, pasta and sauces, breakfast cereals, personal toiletry items and diapers, baby food and formula, powdered or canned milk, pancake mixes, cake mixes, coffee, tea, sugar, flour. Cash donations are also very welcome, as the food shelf purchases certificates for perishable items and other necessary items. Each recipient receives seven days of food and a certificate to purchase dairy products, meat or produce. Summer is an especially hard time for families when children are home from school.
